The construction of the Columbian feats according to Antonio de Herrera y Tordesillas: reflextions on Christopher Columbus' last two voyages

Columbus’ third voyage and his fanciful cosmographic ideas were ridiculed (among others by López de Gómara in 1552), while the fourth expedition was deemed a disaster by everyone. These two expeditions stand in complete contrast to the first two insular triumphant voyages, which mark, in American historiography, the beginning of the glorious history of the great deeds of the Castilians. The darkness of Christopher Columbus’ fate calls into question how the chronicler of the Great Deeds of the Castilians reconstructed these two episodes and the Columbian feats a century later.
