The aimof the present review is to provide a critical analysis of one recent bookon thelife andwork of Thucydides written by Luciano Canfora. The analysisbecomes thus a perfect occasion to reflect on approaches and perspectives of contemporary criticism aboutancient historiography in general and in relation to Thucydides in particular.
